According to most written accounts, Marie Laveaux was a devout Catholic as well as devoted Voodoo Queen. Whether she was really a devout Catholic or merely used the veil of Catholicism like so many others as a cloak for worshipping the Voodoo spirits cannot be stated with any certainty. However, it is an interesting question and not in the least far fetched, considering Louisiana’s Black Code and the social climate of the time in which she lived.
It is said that Mam’zelle Laveaux spent much time praying the rosary and chaplet. The term chaplet is used commonly to designate Roman Catholic prayer forms which use prayer beads, but are not necessarily related to the Rosary. Chaplets are associated with Jesus, Mary and the Saints. Chaplets are considered personal devotionals - there is no set form and therefore they vary considerably. While the usual five decade rosary may be referred to as a chaplet, often chaplets have fewer beads than a traditional rosary and a different set of prayers.

Created from Lapis Lazuli, a cross, and hand crafted charm bearing her image, these Marie Laveaux chaplets are unique to Creole Moon and include instructions and a special prayer not found anywhere else in the world.
