The Mandragore (Mandrake) has two roots, one of a man and one of a woman. The person who harvests the root must take great care that it is not touched. A dog is tied and bound to it and made to fast for three days, then shown a piece of bread which the dog will purse and in doing so, will pull the root from the earth and break it. When pulled from the earth and broken, the mandrake lets out a high pitched shrill which is said to kill anyone within earshot. Unfortunately for the dog who hears the mandrake’s scream, it drops dead from hearing the sound. Such virtue this root possesses, that no one can hear it’s cries, lest they die. Thus, a person must plug their ears while in its presence or suffer the consequence. Once in possession of the root it holds great medicinal value and is said to cure every infirmity - except death. It holds great magickal value as well, and may be used in spells of psychic enhancement and dream work, and in love, sex, protection, luck, and money spells.
