Justice and Revenge
How can I curse thee? Let me count the ways...hex, bind, curse, jinx, trick, cross, goofer ... all ways of saying something very similar in the Voodoo hoodoo vernacular. But just what is a curse, exactly? And what's more important to many I am sure, just how does one go about puttin' the bad mojo on someone?
A curse is the effective action of some power, or result from a spell or prayer, asking that a god, natural force, or spirit bring misfortune to someone. In Voodoo, to perform such a "trick" is to work the left hand of Voodoo and hoodoo. They are considered black magic spells because they are concerned with hurting, harming, goofering, jinxing, or hot footing enemies. On the other hand, certain types of spells can be used to repel negative energy, to keep a perpetrator from hurting someone, or for driving away bad neighbors.
Revenge, justice and righteous retribution spells run the gamut from making someone or some condition go away to actual death spells. All of these intentions can be accomplished in any number of ways. Binding spells, for example, are designed to prevent someone from doing harm to themselves or others. They are used to control the behavior of others or to stop undesired behavior. Banishing spells are spells designed to get rid of an enemy or unwanted person. They can be used to banish illness, emotions, a lover’s jealousy, or unwanted spirits. Banishing spells are best done during a waning moon.
Home-breaking rituals are common in hoodoo, though they should not be employed lightly. When you break up a couple who have children, you will be affecting the lives of the children forever. e spirits do not take kindly to people who bring harm to children, so think very carefully before attempting any of these spells. ere are times when breaking up a couple is justified. For example, if there is abuse going on, then someone should intervene. If you are driven to magick in an effort to deal with this type of situation, you should also seek assistance from a domestic violence shelter, crisis center, and law enforcement. Breakup spells are in the category of enemy works. Whenever you perform such work, you should always take a purification bath afterwards to protect you from any negative consequences of your actions. To do this, take an herbal bath containing a handful each of hyssop and blessed salt. Light two white candles and place them at either end of the tub so that when you stand up, you are standing between them. Pour the water over your head seven times while reciting Psalm 51.
